is again reporting on another future Cadillac, this time the coming XT4. I got news of this last summer from a product person at the Cadillac Dare event.
The smaller than the XT5 crossover looks to cash in on the lucrative small luxury crossover market dominated by the Q3, X3, etc. Despite being tight lipped about the details from Cadillac, they are reporting that they believe that the XT4 to ride on the same platform as the recently redesigned Equinox/Terrain which would make it compete with the MKC and NX rather than the Q3 and other small luxury crossovers. I’m also sure that only turbo 4's will be the engine options. What do you guys think?

They make Cadillacs with turbos like a Buick T-Type? The future sure is crazy.
I didn’t know they started making Seville wagons too. I’m guessing XT4 is a dealership option package.

I applaud your dedication to your Kinja handle.
Now, come over to my apartment so that we can listen to some Huey Lewis and The News.

That, sir, is a rolling dollar sign. Cadillac (AKA GM) knows where their bread is buttered, and that vehicle right there is BUTTA.
I won’t buy it, but as long as it gives the bottom line enough boost so they can keep making V models, I’m all for it.

Didn’t they like just release one of those?
![]() 02/01/2018 at 17:55 |

No. I mean the SRX was redesigned into the XT5 a year or 2 ago if thats the one you’re talking about.

Also this car looks ugly and dumb and boring and lots of people will love it. Sigh

They should really cash in on the Escalade name and style. Make a Range Rover style lineup. Obviously change the names from what I have below, but that gives you the idea. Make them all look like the big boy instead of looking like the platform sharing, FWD based, crossovers that they are. Also, improve the interior above the belt-line.
Escalade
Escalade Sport (XT5)
Escalade Evoke (XT4)
Etc., Etc.

Yep. While no one buys ATS’ or V’s.

Sounds wicked, but I need to find my Walkman first.

I’ve been thinking this a s well. Make an American Range Rover if that makes sense. But doing so would require them to stay too far from the Escalade’s body on frame, Suburban/Tahoe/Yukon roots and thereby daddy GM as well. It would never happen. GM seems to not like their cars, especially when it comes to Cadillac, be too unique from all the other corporate products. That’s why you get good but not as good as they should be models, like the ATS with terrible Malibu sourced 2.5.

The problem with that is if they would separate the brands, Cadillac sales would go through the floor. They need to stay one thing or Cadillac goes bye-bye.

Stop being pessimist and let them buy it.
Every one of these sold means more interesting Oppo-approved Cadillacs.

Luxury crossovers & SUVs, by segment (give or take), alphabetized by manufacturer, because OCD:
Subcompact
Q3, Encore, X1, QX30, Range Rover Evoque, GLA, Countryman, XC40
Compact
RDX, Stelvio, Q5, Envision, X3, Terrain, QX50, E-PACE, Discovery Sport, NX, MKC, GLC, Macan, XC60
Midsize
X5, XT5, Acadia, QX70, F-PACE, Grand Cherokee, Range Rover Velar, Range Rover Sport, RX, GX, MKX, Cayenne
Full-size
MDX, Q7, Bentayga, Enclave, Escalade, Yukon, QX60, QX80, Discovery, Range Rover, Range Rover L, RX L, LX, Navigator, Levante, GLS, Model X, Land Cruiser, XC90
Not sure where exactly the XT4 would fit in but the pics are telling me subcompact.

If its based on the Equinox/Terrain like they are speculating, that would make it bigger than X1,Q3 and GLA of course. Which would put it more in line with the Compact segment. But again, thats if it rides on the D2XX platform of the Equinox/Terrain.

It would still be a Cadillac in the same way the Range Rover is still a Land Rover.

I think they could still do BOF for the Halo SUV. The issue is still parts sharing though. Cadillac really needs to design their own chassis. Or even design the car, then share parts with the rest of GM. Not the other way around. They would then have automobiles designed for the luxury price tag instead of trying to add enough value to a normal car to justify the high price.

Exactly. They need to be Lexus essentially.

I agree, they’re known for the Escalade. All of their SUVs and Crossovers should carry the Escalade name as a way to create some cohesion and familiarity in their evolving line-up.

They literally have a marketing golden ticket. They should hire me as a consultant. Hahaha

I wish Cadillac would see that!
![]() 02/01/2018 at 19:09 |

I hope that this is not just a nicer Equinox/Terrain. If it is, there’s no excuse for why GM is taking so long in releasing it. I hope this is a variant of the alpha or omega platform.
Its crazy that it took so long for Cadillac to spit out some sort of X3/Q5/GLC/MKC/XC60/etc competitor when every major luxury brand has a product in this segment and most have been for well over a decade.
![]() 02/01/2018 at 19:11 |
|
Its going to ride on the same platform maybe, but those lesser vehicles will somehow shine through. It would be a hell of a surprise and stretch if this rode on alpha or omega.
It took them so long because they dont have their priorities straight. Nothing they do has proven otherwise.
![]() 02/01/2018 at 19:17 |
|
Yeah, I agree. Riding on the Equinox platform would further the proof that they don’t have their priorities straight. Alpha and Omega based crossovers would be the perfect Cadillac product but I’m not holding my breath that they’ll ever be made.

It is a Q3 competitor, Audi’s X3/GLC competitor is the Q5. X1 also got knocked down to hatchback-on-stilts status and became a derivative of UKL.
![]() 02/01/2018 at 20:05 |
|
Like I mentioned to someone else, if this rides on the D2XX platform, its going to compete with the compact CUV class, which is bigger than the Q3 and its competitors.
![]() 02/01/2018 at 23:40 |

They did that with Alpha, and the Camaro benefited.
![]() 02/01/2018 at 23:44 |

If Cadillac started out with SUVs they would have become known as an SUV company like Range Rover. They want to be well rounded and more like BMW so took a chance and focused on performance cars.

A large 3-row XT6 or XT7 is rumored to be coming on Omega.
